Serving

I have never sent a family member off to war.
Nor have I lost anyone close to me while they were serving our country.

I know people who have said good-bye to loved ones that didn't come home to hugs and kisses.  I have friends who have children serving right now.

And I am deeply grateful for all of those families.

Ree Drummond currently has a "Coming Home" photo assignment on her blog -- get  your kleenex box and take a peek here at her photography page and here to see all the photo submissions as they come in throughout the next couple days.

Then get your Star Spangled Banner out and proudly display it this weekend, this summer, always and thank God for the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us.

I'm often reminded of this verse when I think of those who serve our country -- they really don't get to choose who they give their life for as they sacrifice for our many freedoms.  Including our freedom to worship and live out our faith.

Christ did choose who he gave his life for.... you and me -- on a personal level.

6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 5:6-9 (New Living Translation)

  1. That is such a great and humbling verse, thanks for sharing. I've also never lost any one to war or even known someone who has, but I'm so grateful to all of them!

  5. Wow, those are great pictures. I don't think I could have a greater respect for anyone than the respect I have for those people who serve in our military. I also can't think of anyone who deserves it more than they do!
